First Time Home Buyers Program
What is the First Time Home Buyer Program?
Anyone who is thinking about buying a home for the first time, should become educated about the process. It is easy to sign on the dotted line and make promises about paying your monthly mortgage payment, but do you really understand what you have committed yourself to?
The Quaranta Housing Services Center of Opportunities for Chenango, Inc. offers Financial Literacy and First Time Homebuyer Education classes, free of charge (there is a slight fee for the materials) on a monthly basis. These classes are for anyone thinking about buying a home of their own. Housing counselors offer the following information in group classes:
- Budgeting
- Credit
- Affordability
- How to work with a real estate agent
- Finding the right lender and the lending process
- Help in choosing the right house
- What to expect at closing
Depending on current funding, there may be a variety of grants available to assist with down payment and closing cost assistance associated with the purchase of a home. Funding is determined by various factors such as income, credit worthiness and the availability of grant funds. Submitting an application is the first step to determining eligibility.
We now also offer an online Homebuyer Education Certification Program through eHomeAmerica. Click here to sign up or to learn more.
